questions or would like to talk.
All are welcome at the United Church of Broomfield
Mission Statement
Our
Church is dedicated to the love of God as demonstrated by Jesus Christ and inspired
by the Holy Spirit. We demonstrate our love of God through everyday living.
Everyone is welcome to join us as we grow in our faith and in our
relationship with God and each other through worship, teaching, caring and
fellowship.
Open & Affirming (ONA) Statement
The following statement was
warmly received and approved by the congregation at the annual meeting on
January 25th, 2004.
We celebrate the image of God in every person,
We rejoice in the sacredness of life, and
We affirm all relationships of support
that are founded
on the principles of love and justice.
As Christians, we are many members,
but we are one body in Christ (Rom 12:4).
We accept Jesus’ call to love our neighbors as
we love ourselves
without
being judgmental (Matt 7:1-2)
nor disparaging of others (Luke
18:9-14).
We, the United
Church of Broomfield, publicly proclaim ourselves as an Open and Affirming
Congregation of the United Church of Christ. We pledge ourselves to
creating a safe and loving community of faith in which ALL persons, regardless of creed, color,
religion, gender, age, mental or physical health, disability, national
origin, family configuration,
sexual orientation, cultural background or economic status can feel
respected and cherished as part of Christ and the spirit of one Creator.
We affirm ALL persons in our congregation as full
participants, and share significant celebrations and milestone events. As
Christians, we affirm the dignity and worth of all people and we will
advocate the rights of every human being. We join and accept the call for
local churches to be inclusive and supportive of ALL persons.
May God bless and
empower us in our journey toward faithfulness. We ask for God’s
blessing and guidance as we commit to loving accepting our diversity with
respect, compassion and understanding.

Our Church History
In late 1957, a worship
group let by the Rev. Harold Rarick was formed. The first official services
for the group was held in March 1958 with 40 people attending the service
held in the parsonage on Midway Blvd. In May 1958 the United Church of
Broomfield was formed. A new facility was constructed at our current
location 825 Kohl St., and on April 2nd, 1961, 261 people attended the
first worship service held in the new facility.
Our
church’s bylaws were developed in 1963, and from that time we have
maintained a focus on community and social issues. A Children’s
Sermon became a regular part of our worship service in 1975. Youth Groups
were formed in 1980, at which time we also sponsored a Cambodian family.
The Kohl Street Kids before and after school program was started in 1985,
and in 1990 the church started a Preschool program.
The new Education
wing addition to the church facility was dedicated on November 2nd, 1988.
We have a tradition of being served by loving and dedicated pastors,
including:
Bradley Skinner 1960-1966
Wayne
Reid 1966-1975
George
Cushing 1975-1980
Jim
Sherman 1980 interim pastor
Jon
Almgren 1980-1996
Jack
Wieczorek 1996-1998 interim pastor

The United Church of
Broomfield, from its beginnings, has had a strong link to the surrounding
community. Our members have been key participants in the beginnings of
FISH, Senior Resources, the community CROP Walk, and other related support
activities. We were organized by families for families, while welcoming all
to our worship and fellowship.
